Sunspot/Apache Point Rally ONE WEEK TO GO!

Looks like we are going to have a good pack of cars next Saturday! We are really looking forward to it and we hope you are too. One thing important to note is the weather.

We are heading up to a higher elevation and it is monsoon season. The temperatures are about  30 degrees cooler than what we are used to on the desert floor.  So please be prepared for temps in the 60’s to 70’s when we reach the top (may feel even cooler with breezes and rain). We should also expect rain at the top as well.  Our destinations are mostly inside so we just need to be prepped for a bit of weather exposure.   (light jackets, non skid shoes, maybe even an umbrella)  Never hurts to have the right gear.

Also remember we will break in Alamogordo before heading up the mountain. Weather in Alamogordo is usually similar to what we have in El Paso and  Las Cruces.  We will be at the park so you can either picnic there during the break or grab a bite at one of the many places available right as we enter Alamogordo.

Here’s a link the UrbanSpoon dining guide for Alamogordo in case you wanted to get an idea of what’s available. (LINK)

See you all soon and please contact us if you have any questions!

  1. this is the first I haveheard about this rally. And the first time I have seen this website. Is the Sunspot rally open to all MINI owners? Does one need to register or just show up at the departure meeting point?

I am the president (actually, Prime Minister) of the British Motorcar Club of Southern New Mexico and my wife and I drive a 2005 Cooper S Convertible. We may be interested in attending this rally and invite all MINI owners to come to our club meetings in Las Cruces. Email me for more into.

    1. There is no signup, just let us know you are coming. Robert Edwards has set up a departure point in Las Cruces as we have several people coming from that direction. At the top of this blog there is a link for all the SUNSPOT RALLY info that details the departure points and agenda times. You can also email Robert: robgisc@yahoo.com or Vince & Andrea Diaz: epminis@gmail.com if you have any other questions.

We hope to see you and the BMCSNM there!

  2. thank you for the info. Unfortunately I have found that we have another engagement on Saturday so we can’t make the rally.

I would sure appreciate being notified of any upcoming events as we would like to eventually join in.

    1. Ron, thanks for your interest in joining us. We appreciate your invitation to join you as well. This website will be our primary means of communicating future events. You can also subscribe to updates via email using the link on the right side of the page. We will definitely stay in touch with you in the coming weeks.-vince
